Logistics: Evolution to Automation

PROLOGUE

The Logistic Sector is developing consistently and is powerfully evolving. At the same time headway in the innovations are helping in the successful administration of the tasks in the logistics sector. Generally considering logistics the main worries for them was putting away the merchandise, transporting the products and conveying the products. But this is not the case for modern logistics.

In this hypercompetitive market cutting down the cost to provide the customers with the best price in the market is a nightmare for the logistics operator and for cutting down the cost, there should be no room for error.

The traditional concept of storing of goods, transporting of goods and delivering the goods have a new “E” for their roles. It can be coined as efficient storing of goods, i.e. proper warehousing, efficient transporting of goods and efficient delivery of goods. For achieving efficiency in operation the businesses require the intervention of Technology and for efficient logistics management automation is the best bet.

IMPACT OF AUTOMATION IN LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

Automating logistics management can help logistics companies more efficient in their operation and better their bottom line.

REQUIREMENT OF “E” IN MODERN LOGISTICS

The end-mile logistics is very difficult to manage with lots of incoming request for delivery as well as reverse pick up of the packages and all the process are done manually. If any package gets misplaced, it is a loss of time and money and reputation, which they can’t afford to lose at their growing stage.

Illustration: A company receiving 100 orders per day and one delivery person handling 15 orders per day. The task is easy for them once they are handling inbound orders i.e. they deliver to the customer, but the real problem is when they have to handle outbound orders i.e. they need to pick from a customer. If they mix any order on their way it would be a pain for the company. It happens only when the records are kept manually. If this order was automated with proper scan codes and proper assignment, the risk of these kinds of problems would decrease substantially.

CONCLUSION

By automating the logistics operation the business owners get access to real-time freight data and real-time analytics and that would help in improved customer service and speed in their operation and the room for costly errors steadily decreases. That will help the organisation in earning better profits and scalability.
